World Humanitarian Day

I apologize for my absence but my entry this week (or for last week if I find something for this week) is an important one trying to bring together literally a billion people. The UN celebrates World Humanitarian Day every year and this year they want all of us to get involved. They want everyone to say ‘I Was Here’ on August 19th and commit to doing something good, somewhere, for someone else. ‘I Was Here’ is inspired by Beyonce’s song (I was at the taping for the music video that will air on the 19th!) and is aiming at getting everyone involved and showing that those that are abroad doing humanitarian work are awesome and great but that we can all help and make a difference. Right now when you visit the website you can sign-up to have a World Humanitarian Day message posted on your facebook or twitter on the 19th and then you can check out the ideas they have to help others or come up with one of your own. For example, my sister and I make no-sew fleece blankets and donate them so at the least I will definitely be making one this Sunday. So take a look at the site, sign up, and then take part on Sunday! Happy Humanitarian Day!

Until next week,
Annie

Good Maker

This week we are getting to vote for projects we want to see happen. Good Maker is a tool of Good’s to reward individuals and organizations with the best ideas. How it works is that an organization creates a challenge that drives meaningful impact than people submit their ideas and after all ideas are brought in the community votes on the idea they believe meets the challenge the best. The idea with the most votes wins and receives the money to help make their idea happen. You all come in at the voting, although I would also tell you to take a look and possibly submit your own idea. There are many different challenges that you can vote for and all you have to do to vote is sign up to be a member of Good. When you sign up you can also choose to get a daily e-mail. So this week when you have a few minutes when you aren’t watching the Olympics head on over to Good Maker and vote for some projects you want to see happen. Happy voting!

Until next week,
Annie

P.S. I want to do an Olympic post next week so if you have any ideas let me know!

Bing.com

This week’s entry is really fun because it involves a search engine that does so much more! Bing.com has created a rewards system that when you sign up you can get points by searching the internet but also by learning more about Bing and all it has to offer. Once you have points, and more importantly why I’m telling you about it, you can get rewards. Some of the rewards are to donate your points to not-for-profits like DonorsChoose.org, Boys and Girls Club, Kids in Need Foundation, etc. So this week when you have some down time and want to do some learning or need to search for something on the internet head on over to Bing.com and sign up for the rewards program. It’s easy and can get you started on your way to helping others! Happy Searching!

Until next week,
Annie

The Trevor Project

Sorry for the hiatus but I’m back! This week’s post does not take much however it is a Facebook one (Sorry I know there are a lot these days however Facebook lets people help out!).  Esurance has teamed up with The Trevor Project and is donating $5 to them for every profile pic that is added to the NTL (Need to Talk Live) Movement. It is very easy, all you have to do is upload your photo and $5 will be donated to The Trevor Project (up to $50k). The Trevor Project is a wonderful organization that provides crisis intervention and suicide prevention to LGBTQ youth. So this week when you are on Facebook and have a couple minutes head over to the Esurance NTL Movement site and upload your photo.

Until next week,
Annie

100 Cars for Good

This, well last weeks, blog post is helping a lot of people. Unfortunately it is another Facebook one so those who don’t have Facebook I apologize. Toyota is giving away 100 cars to nonprofits every day for 100 days. From now until August 21st you can visit 100carsforgood.com every day to vote for one of five nonprofits that you feel deserves a new car. At the end of each day, Toyota will give a new car to the organization with the most votes. Each organization has a video, an explanation, and why they need the car so you can make a thoughtful decision on who you want to vote for. So this week when you are spending some time on Facebook make sure to head over to the 100 cars for good page and vote for the organization of your choice. Happy voting!

Until next week,
Annie

Red and Checking-in on Four Square

This week’s blog post cannot be done by all of my readers, including myself, however it is important enough for me to post it! From now until June 10 every check-in on Foursquare at Starbucks and select retailers of Penfolds and Bugaboo will trigger a donation from these (Red) partners to help fight AIDS. For every check-in $1 will be donated. So this coming week when you are grabbing a cup of coffee or just going to chill at your local Starbucks make sure to check-in on foursquare, if you have it, to help in the fight against AIDS. Happy checking-in!

Until next week,
Annie

PS: For those of you who do not have Foursquare, check out the other ways donations are being made.
